The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) is pleased to announce the 21st member of the Congressional Caucus on Macedonia and Macedonian-Americans (Macedonia Caucus) – Congressman Trey Radel (Republican-Florida). Congressman Radel represents the 19th Congressional District of Florida.
Congressman Radel assumed office on January 3, 2013. Prior to running for Congress, he worked as a TV reporter, anchor, conservative radio host, and businessman. Congressman Radel serves on the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the Committee for Foreign Affairs, including the Subcommittees on the Western Hemisphere, and the Middle East and North Africa. Congressman Radel became the fifth member of the Macedonia Caucus who sits on the Committee for Foreign Affairs.
“Since Florida has a growing Macedonian-American community, especially in Naples, having Congressman Radel on the Caucus helps ensure the voice of Macedonian-Americans is represented among policymakers in Washington, D.C.,” said UMD President Metodija A. Koloski. “Given the Congressman’s journalistic background and extensive global travel, he understands the importance of strengthening the U.S. role in the world, including the Balkans.”
“In light of the upcoming NATO Summit in 2014, Macedonia’s NATO membership and enlargement as a whole should be put back on the priority list of the U.S. Administration’s policy towards the Balkans,” concluded Koloski.
